DEA VOLUME TWO: The Dunce The Pope and Lincoln
Their sole mission was to keel Dondy Christ.
Late 1986 into 1987; At this point a major shift decimates the original inhabitants of DEA. Dr. Penetration is left high and dry as Rudy Baker departs
for the backrooms of the music industry where, he intimates, he could do the most damage.
Happy Donuts and Bruno Ravioli, a traveling vocal/bass/guitar mercenary team, figuring they work pretty good together, decide to create their own
musical situation with the theme: if you're gonna play someone elses song screw it up real good. Their first attempt at acquiring a drummer goes awry when
Rasputin Ovulteen, refuses to join the two. At the time Ovulteen was the lead vocalist of The 22 Toxic Chemicals and the actor that portrayed Staten Island legend Weanie Robowski, the infamous drummer of Rotten Meat and Spaghetti,
in the underground movie Thursday the 12fth, in which Robowski was accused of killing all of his friends.
At that time Rasputin had his flunkies inform Happy and Bruno that his multitudinous prior commitments legally obligated him to say no.
With their backs to the wall and the eviction notices piling up, Bruno and Happy fortuitously meet Dr P at the Bay Landing Cafe (R.I.P.) and realizing they all
enjoyed alcohol fueled jam sessions and would rather quit a band than be asked to play dry, as well as the fact that Penetration played drums and would let Bruno and Happy use his washer/dryer, they merged and became V3.
Now, V3 you ask? Well, it was one step up from U2, but the name only
lasted a weekend. After sobering up they realized they wanted
to go even deeper than they had ever delved before into the psyche of
the audience and their own wonderful views on living. Colliding on the
scene as a threesum dedicating to loud fast originals ("Who Do
You Know (who did you blow)", "Dadillac", "C.U.N.L."
and "Die") that asked the question, "wha?" and dared to bandy
about some answers, DEA came to be known as "legendary" themselves, probably because
very few people ever saw them but those that did left confused and wanting
an explanation. Around this time the three were known to have started
using and developing special pastes that would enhance their performances
and after-show extraculricilar abilities.
DEA hijinks abounded: Playing topless clubs and churches, Bruno and
Happy rented the Norwood Palace in Clifton, Staten Island as DEA headquarters
(ie-bar), multi-level roof football stadium and chicken shack.
Video taping their first feature length video together, "The Expiration
of Dr. Penetration", these three guys started having the type of fun
they hadn't had in previous bands. After finding time to record the
3 tune demo "Flying by the seat of one's pants", featuring,
"Malaysia", "Rebecca DeMornay" and "Rolling
Rox", DEA proceeds in setting the groundwork to record an album
of originals to be entitled "Blast For Me". |
